Nobody plans on having an ugly yard, it just happens.
Whether it’s Mother Nature, bad soil, picking the wrong plants, or you’re too busy with work… the bloom’s off the rose, weeds as high as an elephant’s eye, and your sod is a dirt clod.
But don’t despair, the City of Deltona wants to help you Rescue Your Yard… serious! Beginning in January, the City wants its residents with the yards needing the most help to send in a photo of their “lawns of lost hope.” Then in February, we will pick the two most calamitous collections of horticulture… and those two winning entries will each receive a front yard makeover worth $500.
The Volusia County Agricultural Extension Agency will assist in selecting the right plants for the winners, and provide on-site guidance when the new landscaping goes into the ground.
Send your photo—one per email address—to YardBeautify@deltonafl.gov, and make sure to include your address, name, and contact information. At the end of February, two winning entries will be selected and notified by email.
In March, the process starts to makeover and beautify the winners' yards.
Based upon the landscape design, the winners and County Agricultural Extension Agency representative will select the plantings at area businesses and the City will cover the first $500 of the purchase that may include shrubs, trees, mulch, and fertilizer. The $500 cannot be used to purchase sod or turf. Any costs in excess of $500 will be the winners’ responsibility. Actual work on the selected properties will begin between the third week of March and the first week of April, dependent upon weather conditions.
To be eligible for the Rescue Your Yard contest, entrants need to be a resident of Deltona, be the registered homeowner of the selected property,
and agree to being videotaped for the DeltonaTV program “Urban Outdoorsman.”
Happy plantings… and remember to Beautify Deltona!
